Advent Sermon Series
Believe it or not, Advent is here. And while we are now in full gear making lists, checking them twice, shopping and planning; you might find yourself winding down to a Christmas Hallmark movie, or an old classic from your childhood to get you in the Christmas spirit. This Advent season we are taking a look at some favorite Christmas movies in our sermon series “Reel Christmas”. How does God speak to us through these wonderful movies? Here is the schedule:
Sunday, 12/2 – 9:30 AM
2 Corinthians 5:16-21 – “The Grinch”
Are you feeling busy these days? Has life just gone from “manageable” to “overwhelming”? Could it have anything to do with the Christmas Season being upon us?We will consider how our hearts can be hardened – and what God’s Spirit can do to turn our lives around in wonderful ways.
Sunday, 12/9 – 9:30 AM
Matthew 2:9-11 – “A Christmas Story”
“You’ll shoot your eye out!”
Do you ever yearn for something that might not have been the best thing for you? Sometimes our desires for something ultimately insignificant come to skew everything around us. The Gospel verses from the book of Matthew take us on a brief journey about God’s love for us despite our often skewed yearnings. I believe that God works tirelessly to bless us by offering wisdom, cleaning up our messes, and guiding us in paths of righteousness. God takes incredible joy in each of us, and offers the world the gift above all gifts – Jesus Christ our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, and Savior.
Sunday, 12/16 – 9:30 AM
We will take a break and hear the message via the beautiful music of our Christmas Cantata! Come join us for this very special service.
Sunday. 12/23 – 9:30 AM
Luke 2:8-14 – “It’s Christmas Time, Charlie Brown”
In this classic cartoon by Charles Schulz, we have the main character Charlie Brown feeling down and a little lost as he begins searching for the “real meaning” of Christmas in the midst of this cheerful holiday season. You’ll remember the beautiful moment when one character helps Charlie to find the reason for this season with the scripture from Luke. This cartoon speaks truth to all of us in it’s simplicity. How might you be struggling to see God’s love for you in the midst of this busy season? What can we do to find that simple joy together?
Monday, 12/24 – 6:00 PM
Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
Luke 2:1-20 – “Light of Christ Breaks Forth”
On Christmas Eve, we come together to rejoice in God’s great love for the world, and for each of us. God’s love breaks through the darkness of the world in the most amazing, humble, and remarkable way through the birth of a small baby in a barn.
God turned the world upside down, in the birth of our savior – Jesus Christ!
Let’s rejoice together in the miracle of Christ’s arrival, who saves the world and each one of us from the darkness of sin. Let’s praise God together for breaking through our darkness with the brightest light, and the greatest hope this world will ever know!
