Have you made any New Year’s resolutions yet? If not, here is one you might consider: “Bible in One Year”
“Bible in One Year” is a free Bible reading app with commentary by Nicky and Pippa Gumbel. Nicky Gumbel is the Vicar of HTB in London and pioneer of Alpha.
The app will work with any iPhone or Android smart phone. If you do not have a smart phone or just prefer email, you may also subscribe to receive a daily email with that days reading and commentary.
This is a fun and easy way to manage your daily devotions. Just spend a few minutes each day following the app or daily email and by the end of 2020 you will have read the entire bible and will get some great insights along the way.
To install the app, go to the app store from your smart phone and search for “Bible in One Year”. For more information or to subscribe to the daily emails, visit: http://www.bibleinoneyear.org/
You may contact Pastor Denise if you would like more information about this particular bible reading application.
During this season of giving we invite you to help share the true meaning of the season by supporting the many ministries of DeBows UMC. We are able to share God’s love with others based solely on the generosity of our members and friends, and their willingness to emulate Christ’s love for others.
This is the time of year many of us prepare to celebrate the season with friends and family. At the same time we need to remember that, for many, the Christmas season does not offer the same opportunities for joy due to various social and economic reasons. We need to see these people as God’s children and reach out to them in whatever ways we have at our disposal.
WHAT IS #GIVINGTUESDAY?
(From the official www.givingtuesday.org web site)
We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.
DeBows UMC will facilitate this spirit of generosity by offering the ability to donate online using the below button. This feature uses industry leader PayPal, a secure and easy way to use your credit/debit card to make donations. As always, donations to the church are tax deductible and you will receive a year-end statement from the DeBows UMC reflecting your donation.
While this feature is a permanent feature on our web site and is available all year long, we urge you to participate on Giving Tuesday or any time during Advent. Donations will directly support the ministries of DeBows UMC, including:
Community Food Pantry
Sharing our facilities with community groups
Together, we can make a difference.
Thank you, and may God bless you during this Advent season.
