(Formerly One Great Hour of Sharing)
Sunday, March 22. 2020
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the not-for-profit humanitarian agency of The United Methodist Church. Since 1940 UMCOR’s mission — providing relief in disaster areas, aiding refugees and confronting the challenge of world hunger and poverty — has helped to heal the hurts of humanity in nearly 100 countries.
United Methodists assist UMCOR through gifts collected on UMCOR Sunday, which is observed on the fourth Sunday in Lent. This church wide Special Sunday calls United Methodists to share the goodness of life with those who hurt. Monies collected underwrite UMCOR’s “costs of doing business.” This helps UMCOR keep its promise that every gift to a specific UMCOR project will go toward that project, not for administrative costs.
DeBows UMC will participate in UMCOR Sunday on March 22, 2020. Special offering envelopes will be available in the pews to support this UMC ministry.

UMCOR Hygiene Kits
As recent hurricane Dorian remind us, natural disasters happen all too often, adversely impacting hundreds of thousands of people at home and abroad. Our UMCOR Hygiene Kit outreach activity helps to meet the ever increasing demand for relief items. The hygiene kits we put together are forwarded to UMCOR for deployment to those most in need. We have collected many items needed to make kits, but still need more of the following items so we can complete the kits and send them to UMCOR.
- Hand towels
- Nail clippers
- Sets of 6 Band-Aids (standard size)
- Combs – 6″
We currently have ample supplies of toothpaste, and bars of soap; therefore, we do not need more of these items at the moment. If you can help with any of the needed items, please leave them in the box outside the Fellowship Hall.
