The Thankful Church
Big Idea of the Series: This 3-week series helps us see what a thankful church looks like and the difference gratitude can make in our gatherings, missions, and culture.
Sunday, November 1
Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:1–9
Topics: Ingratitude, Consequences, Church Culture
Big Idea: This week examines what it looks like when a church exercises a culture of ingratitude.
Application: We must live out the command to be thankful in the same way we would any other biblical instruction for our lives.
Sunday, November 8 – COMMUNION
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Topics: Gratitude, Good Fruit, Church Culture
Big Idea: This week examines what it looks like when a church practices a culture of gratitude.
Application: Our relationship with God will necessarily be affected by the presence or absence of gratitude.
Sunday, November 15
Scripture: Philippians 3:12–17
Topics: Gratitude, Longevity
Big Idea: This week’s lesson focuses on what it takes to cultivate infectious, long-lived gratitude.
Application: We experience gratitude’s greatest effect over a long period of time.
Sunday, November 22
“Give Thanks”
Scripture: Matthew 6:19–33
Big Idea: As we approach Thanksgiving, we look at Jesus’s words on materialism and worry. This message reminds us that we must be thankful for God’s good gifts despite our circumstances.
Topic: Provision, Money, Worry, Treasure, Fear, God’s Kingdom
Big Idea: A good life isn’t made by owning a fortune, but instead by trusting God to provide for our needs.
Application: Rather than worshipping money, we must trust God for provision and be thankful for what he has given us.
